Doraji(Bellflower root/ Balloon flower root/ Platycodon) is common agricultural products in Korea. Doraji usually blooms white or purple flower in July to August in Korea. The root of doraji looks like ginseng, and they have similar nutritional contents such as saponins and glucose. Doraji mainly means only root and it is sweet but has a slight aftertaste of sharp bitterness at the same time. In Korea, people usually make seasoned doraji or stir-fried doraji as a side dish and also make tea.
Doraji is used as a medicinal ingredient in oriental medicine. It is commonly used for treating cough, sore throat, common cold, and bronchitis in Korea. It may also help boost the immune system.
