In items like thermal paper, kaolin increases the gloss level and wax absorption, resulting in its smooth surface which produces higher quality printouts. And in decorative laminate papers used in cabinets and on furniture and flooring, kaolin can replace significant amounts of expensive titanium dioxide, making it an economical method of increasing opacity, brightness and whiteness.
