Products Description

●What is "ISHIGURA" ?
The word "Ishi-gura" in Japanese can be translated to "a stone tank/warehouse" in English.
This wine inherits the history of wine making of Japan, as is fermented by the "Ishigura", antique tank made of granite stone, which exists no more in the world but only at Lumiere winery in Japan.
It was built in 1901, as the first underground fermenter in European style, now, it is registered as Cultural Property of Japan & Japanese Heritage.
And surprisingly, we still use this tank to ferment red wines only once a year.

●How is the taste like ?
We make this wine from 100% Japanese black grapes, 100% cropped in Yamanashi, mainly Muscat Bailey A.
During the fermentation in Ishigura, the special yeast on the stone wall gives a unique flavour and taste to the wine. The temperature can be stable by underground geothermal heat.
Actually, it is easy-to-drink with fresh strawberry-like aroma of Muscat Bailey A, pairs good with casual Japanese foods such as Teriyaki, Sukiyaki, Niku-jaga, Yakitori etc., and also good with Asian foods, hot & spicy foods like Thai, Turkish, Indian or Mexican etc.

●How is the sale status ?
As there is only 1 active stone tank hence the production volume is limited, however it can make approximately 10000 bottles at once.
Basically, selling to our main customers in Japan.
