ORIGINAL BITTER
As per the original recipe, share sugar content in bitters and amaro was low, in La Canellese Original Bitter this sobriety brings out all the aromas and fragrances of the 30 medicinal plants used. The slow maceration, very long in winter and faster in summer, keeps and preserves the aromas of the medicinal plants in order to obtain a top-quality extract, very persistent, and this is the reason of the complexity of or Original Bitter.
The traditional Piedmontese method, the cold extraction and stabilization, the quality and quantity of medicinal herbs, the low content of sugar, the very fine spirits and the absence of artificial food colorants give to Original Bitter an unusual, rare and unique personality.



The recipe is formulated of:
33 parts of plants: 30 medicinal plants (sweet Orange, gentian, wormwood, rhubarb, hibiscus, carnation, juniper, elder, aloe, ginger, 2 fruits and 1 root).

Its outward appearance is:
Redcurrant, red apple and carrot carefully dosed give the bitter a natural red color with Orange hints.


Its Aroma is:
Lemony, floral with a strong and lovely spicy fragrance.
When to taste:
At cocktail time or after dinner.


Its taste is:
Dry, severe and slightly sweet with Orange notes and immediate scents of gentian, angelica, juniper, with final notes of a charming and persistente amaro with delicate hits of rhubarb, cinchona, sage, aloe, licorice all in a round and amonic balance and with a rhythm of authentic notes and fragrances.

How to serve:
Chilled, neat or with an Orange twist. The bitter and gentle note is carried out in cocktails of high character.

If we, the fourth generation, are here today, it is thanks to Francesco Sconfienza, our great-grandfather. In 1903, he opened his barrel-making factory near Asti, in Canelli, in the Piedmont region of northwest Italy, and seventy years ago the company leveraged its knowledge in the sector to begin making high quality artisanal vermouth, liquors and aromatized wines under the La Canellese label.
