Powdered Kombu
Powdered Kombu and Kombu Salt, a blend of powdered kombu and salt. The kombu powder is 100% wild-grown makombu kelp. It is packed with kombu’s natural sweet and savory flavor. Sprinkle it over all kinds of dishes or mix it in to add sweetness and savoriness without any off flavors. Sprinkle it on meats and salads. We mainly carry a variety of kombu kelp harvested in Hokkaido, Japan called makombu. Makombu has thick leaves with a sweet flavor. The kombu harvest in Hokkaido has been declining year by year, but the wild-grown kombu we mainly carry remains an especially prized ingredient. While we mentioned wild-grown kombu earlier, there are wild-grown, cultivated, and cultured types categorized based on the growing period and how it is raised. Wild-grown kombu puts down roots on the sea floor, and grows for 2 years (growing from the bottom up). Cultivated kombu is tended by people, and is grown for 2 years hanging downward from ropes, while cultured kombu is is tended by people like cultivated kombu, and it is grown for 1 year. Naturally, wild-grown kombu is thicker and hardier. Cultivated and cultured kombu hang downward, growing in the direction of gravity, so the leaves have a straighter, neater shape than wild-grown kombu, and are also thinner.

We use the highest-grade kombu kelp from Hokkaido, and we do everything in-house, from sourcing the kombu to manufacturing and sales. Our kombu tsukudani is made mainly from wild-grown Hokkaido kombu that is thick, packed with savory flavor, and has a tender, springy texture, and we make many products that set us apart from competitors. We manufacture a wide range of products, from our own original products to contracted products, receiving many orders from high-end restaurants, and these fine products also make delightful gifts.
We developed Tsukushin as an in-house brand, and we sell it through our directly-operated stores and high-end grocery stores.
The name Tsukushin means authentic tsukudani, and it encapsulates the spirit of our founders.
We also promote dietary educations, engage in efforts to tackle environmental problems, and have devoted our efforts in recent years to developing additive-free products.
