Product Description
Sepiolite is a fibrous aqueous magnesium silicate, usually white, light gray, light yellow and other colors, not transparent and no luster. Some are shaped like clods of earth, while others form a strange crust or nodule. Under an electron microscope they are made of filaments held together and arranged in sheets. Sepiolite has the strange feature that when they meet water they absorb a lot of water and become soft, but when they dry they become hard again. Sepiolite belongs to rhombic system or monoclinic system. Changeable color, generally light white or off-white; Silky luster, sometimes waxy luster; Stripes white, opaque, smooth touch and sticky tongue; The Mohs hardness is between 2 and 2.5; The body is light, and the density is 1-2.2g /cm3. Low shrinkage and good plasticity. Sepiolite is composed of silicon (Si) and magnesium (Mg). Its standard crystal chemical formula is Mg8 (H2O) 4[Si6O16]2 (OH) 4·8H2O, in which SiO2 content is generally between 54~60%, MgO content is mostly in the range of 21~25%.
