Hydrofluoric acid is mainly used in the synthesis of a variety of fluorinated organics,ex Telflon, refrigerants like freon and so on.It is used by the semiconductor industry to remove oxides from silicon surfaces and plays an important role in the purification of aluminum and uranium due to the ability of hydrofluoric acid to dissolve oxides. Hydrofluoric acid is also used to remove oxygen-containing impurities from stainless steel surfaces in the "leaching" process.Hydrofluoric acid is also used to etch semiconductor surfaces, glass surfaces, and to carve patterns, marks and text.In oil refineries it can be used as a catalyst for the alkylation reaction of isobutane and n-butene.
