What is N-acetyl-l-cysteine NAC Powder?
NAC, or N-Acetyl-L-cysteine (N-Acetylcysteine),, is a sulfhydryl-containing antioxidant that increases the free radical trapping agent of cellular depots and is also a mucolytic agent, which works by breaking the disulfide bond (-S-S-) of mucin peptide bonds,making mucin into small molecule peptide chains, relaxing and clearing the sputum NAC and glutathione have comparable functions,both have antioxidant properties based on sulfhydryl function, and both protect the body from peroxidative stress damage caused by infectious shock.NAC inhibits neuronal apoptosis but also induces smooth muscle cell apoptosis.NAC also inhibits HIV replication and acts as a substrate for microsomal glutathione transferase (GST).

Phlegm dissolution: The sulfur group (-SH) contained in NAC molecule can break the disulfide bond (-S-S-) in the polypeptide chain of glycoprotein in sputum, reduce the stickiness of sputum and make it liquefy. It can also break DNA fibers in purulent sputum,so it can dissolve not only white mucous sputum but also purulent sputum, which can make patients' sputum thin and easy to cough up,avoiding repeated infections caused by sticky sputum that cannot be easily coughed up in the respiratory tract.
Lung protection: NAC can reduce nicotine-induced apoptosis of type I alveolar epithelial cells and also inhibit cigarette
extract-induced apoptosis of type II alveolar epithelial cells.
