Advantage
-Absorption of exudate and maintenance of a wet healing environment
The main function of the foam dressing is to absorb and lock the exudate, providing high absorbency and prolonged use. Foam dressings have different sized pores to absorb exudate from the wound bed and lock it in place. The surface of the dressing is usually smooth and hydrophilic. Some products, however, have a micro debridement effect as the surface is larger sized openings to absorb and lock debris in place.
Foam dressings are usually used for superficial wounds, and specialized cavity-type products can also be used for cavity wounds with larger defects. There are no obvious limitations on wound type and can be used for a wide range of wounds including lower limb ulcers (which can be combined with pressure therapy), pressure ulcers, traumatic wounds, stomas and tracheotomies, minor burns, skin grafts, donor areas, diabetic foot ulcers, and other exuding wounds.
