The morphology of onion inner epidermal cells is described as resembling a rectangular lattice or brick wall with a cell membrane, vesicles, nucleus and cytoplasm.
Onion epidermal cells need to be observed under a microscope and are most typically characterised as containing a large vesicle. These cells are mature plant cells with a cell wall, cell membrane and a large central vesicle. The cytosol in the vesicle is purple in colour and has no centrosome, but contains chloroplasts. Vesicles are vesicular structures in plant cells, and the vesicles in mature plant cells can account for up to 90 per cent of the entire cell volume, and regulate the intracellular environment so that the cell maintains a certain osmotic pressure and Maintain a swollen state.
