I have a wood table that's very sensitive. These place mats/coasters protect it very well. Larger than most place mats, so there's room enough for a side dish and a main dish. The felt is a better protector than cloth or plastic mats. I've spilled sauces, gravy on them, and a quick wipe with a soapy sponge cleans it right up.
