Products Description


Polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) is a crystalline material that belongs to the general engineering plastics category. PBT is a polyester made from terephthalic acid and 1,4-butanediol that has many excellent properties, including strong chemical resistance, desirable electrical properties, and high adaptability to molding and other industrial processes, which makes it a common material of choice in a wide range of applications, including electrical and electronic equipment, automotive parts, and film extrusion. On the other hand, the prevalence of ester bonds in PBT makes it susceptible to degradation in the presence of strong bases and easy hydrolysis in warm, humid environments.

Application


PBT of application:
(1) Connectors
Connectors are bridges between signals and are indispensable components for transmitting electronic signals and power connections. The balanced physical properties and price of PBT meet the needs of connectors. PBT is usually mixed with 30% glass fiber as a connector. PBT is widely used due to its mechanical properties, solvent resistance, good molding processability and low price. PBT cannot be used in SMT type connectors due to its poor solder heat resistance.
(2) Cooling fans
The second largest use of PBT is in cooling fans. Cooling fans are placed in machines and rotate for a long time to help dissipate heat. The physical properties of plastics are required to be heat resistant, flame retardant, insulating and mechanically strong. PBT is usually used in the form of 30% fiber addition as the outer frame and fan blades of cooling fans.
(3) Bobbin
The third use of PBT is as a winding shaft in transformers and relays. It is generally injection molded with 30% fiber addition of PBT. The physical properties required for winding shafts include insulation, heat resistance, solder resistance, fluidity, strength, etc. Applicable materials include phenolic resin, PBT, PA6, and PET. Phenolic resin has good properties, but its moldability is not as good as PBT. Therefore, small-sized and complex-shaped products all use PBT resin. Although PBT has poor solder resistance, countries such as Europe, the United States, and Japan, which have a high awareness of environmental protection, have a tendency to increase the use of recyclable PBT.
(4) Automobile Industry
The amount of PBT consumed in the automobile industry is about 2,200 metric tons, of which half of PBT is formed into PBT/PC alloy with PC and can be used as car bumpers. In addition, PBT can also be used for window motor housings, motorcycle motor parts, and automobile transmission gear boxes.
(5)Others
Other uses of PBT, such as adding 15% glass fiber to the inner and outer shell of the base of energy-saving light bulbs, using PBT/PC composite glue as the sole of skates, and others such as relay housings, sockets, switches, and tuner housings.
