While working in ShanTou China in the Auto Electric s business Don buys his first 60cc WingDing bike engine from a dealer on the street. Gas engines were legal to use in China then but not now. Later the same year he returns to the USA with an engine kit in his suitcase. lt was very crude by today's standards.
After installing on a used Columbia brand road bike it lasted only 2 hrs after his first ride. A by-stander said; “Where did you get that cute little WingDing and promptly paid 500 USD cash out of pocket for the bike and engine. Don had to walk home. Hence the Bike engine kit business idea was born!
Company in Year 2001
Don Grube, while working in China incorporates his business as GruBee Inc. in Oklahoma City, USA. Business on the USA side handled by his assistant Keith Brawe. First engine shipments came from JaiLi Nantong and sold to Spit-FireMotor Works in CA as private label. Later Don changed his brand name for the GT series of sq. hd.engines to StarFire .
The litle WingDing 48cc round head came from ShanTou YongAn. YongAn went out of the engine business in 2005.
