The range of available sutures has increased over the last 3 decades. This synthetic suture material is a polyamide. It is available in a multifilament form but is most commonly used as a monofilament
suture material. Nylon is also awkward to handle and has poor knot security. It causes minimal tissue reaction, though buried cut
ends may cause irritation.Monofilament nylon degrades slowly, losing 30% of its tensile strength within 2years of implantation, whereas the multifilament form loses 75% within 6months. It is a good choice for skin closure.
