Methyl methacrylate (MMA), also known as methyl isobutylate, is an organic compound, chemical formula C5H8O2, colorless liquid, slightly soluble in water, soluble in ethanol and other organic solvents, mainly used as a monomer of organic glass, but also used in the manufacture of other resins, plastics, coatings, adhesives, lubricants, wood and cork infiltrators, paper glazing agents and so on.
Methyl methacrylate (MMA) is an organic compound with the formula CH2=C(CH3)COOCH3. This colorless liquid, the methyl ester of methacrylic acid (MAA), is a monomer produced on a large scale for the production of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA).
Applications
Applications
It is mainly used as a monomer of plexiglass, and is also used in the manufacture of other resins, plastics, coatings, adhesives, lubricants, wood and cork infiltrators, paper glazing agents, etc.
As a material monomer, MMA is mainly used in the production of polymethyl methacrylate (commonly known as plexiglas, PMMA), and can also be copolymerized with other vinyl compounds to obtain different properties of products, such as the manufacture of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) additives ACR, MBS and as the second monomer applied in the production of acrylic fiber.
