What is EPP
EPP (Expanded polypropylene) is an engineered plastic foam material. By combining polypropylene resin with magic dust, and applying heat, pressure and CO2 in an autoclave, the material is formed into small plastic beads. These small, closed-cell foam beads are injected into a steam chest to create parts custom moulded into complex shapes using steam heat & pressure.
EPP foam beads raw material is widely known as ARPRO® which is manufactured by JSP, the global leader in producing & supplying EPP beads material.
Properties of EPP
EPP (Expanded Polypropylene) is a highly versatile closed-cell bead foam that provides a unique range of properties, including outstanding energy absorption, multiple impact resistance, thermal insulation, buoyancy, water and chemical resistance, exceptionally high strength to weight ratio and 100% recyclability.
Why EPP Shockpad
-EPP(Expanded Polypropylene) can be found, where it would not be suspected at all at first glance: such as in football/soccer stadiums, golf course, baseball field, tennis court and other sports field. Laid beneath the green turf fibers are several hundred slabs/plates which are made from EPP foam. Expanded Polypropylene represents a perfect basis for artificial turf. The EPP ground plates excel not only in their cushioning effect, they are ultra lightweight as well and can be transported everywhere low-cost and eco-friendly.
-EPP is a PP specialty foam with very good impact absorption,lightweight and hig temperature resistance. It combines high energy absorption, even after several impacts, with excellent resilience and isotropic deformation performance. These properties, which also include low water absorption and good resistance to chemicals, open up a broad range of applications: from vehicle construction, packaging and transport containers to sports and leisure applications.
-EPP is 100% recyclable. It is manufactured and processed without any CFCs(Chlorofluorocarbons). The EPP sheet sub-layer basis can easily be cleaned or disinfected, it does not absorb water and is resistant to oils and chemicals.
-The EPP ground plates can also be assembled like tesseras without problems. In no time, a large basis for artificial turf is arising. The EPP foam plates underlay also minimizes the strains on players' muscles and joints: it has been approved that the predominantly closed-cell, air-filled particles have a cushion factor of 2.6 to 2.8 based on test method ISO 4651.
Due to these above mentioned attributes of EPP, the football fan wonders: Is the feathery EPP material really able to bear current and future football giants without difficulty? Of course. Using tremendous heat, the small evacuated plastic beads smelt into an extremely stable and solid material, which sustains every size of footballer without problems.
