ZTE ZXONE 8000 OTN
Brief Introduction

With large-scale commercial deployment of new services including 3G, IPTV and broadband access and continual growth of data services, the capacity of metro transport network has become the bottleneck for service development. Facing nearly exhausted bandwidth, a gigantic challenge posed to operators is that which techniques can provide required bandwidth and intelligent grooming of large granularity services, while taking into account multi-service access and aggregation capacity, high integration, low cost and other requirements.

Traditional WDM transmission platform can provide massive transmission capacity, ultra long haul, powerful service access and convergence capability as well as telecom-level protection, but the cost is rather high and the intelligent dispatching capability is still insufficient. To cater for the above network development trend and satisfy customers’ requirements, ZTE launches the new-generation, large-scale, highly-integrated, low cost, intelligent and green iOTN product ZXONE 8000.

Features

Strong Service Access and Aggregation Capability

Multi-service access: ZXONE 8000 product can access optical signals in various formats, including STM-N (N=1, 4, 16, 64, 256), POS (Packet Over SDH), ATM (asynchronous transmission mode), GE, 10 GE, 40GE,100GE,FC, ESCON, FICON and DVB.

Multi-service aggregation:

–4×STM-16/8×GE/8×FC1--> OTU2.

–4×FC2 / 2×FC4 --> OTU2

–4×STM64/10GE --> OTU3

–10×STM64/10GE --> OTU4

High Level of Integration

ZXONE 8000 product is ZTE’s new-generation intelligent transport platform. The current equipment includes several sub-racks with electrical cross-connect capacity of 1.4T, 2.8T, 3.2T and 9.4T, respectively.

A single 8000 CX21 shelf is 10U in height; a single 8000 CX31 shelf is 20U in height; a single 8000 CX51 shelf is 30U in height; CX71 is dual-sided shelf and 40U in height. The equipment can save equipment space and reduce power consumption to remarkably reduce operation maintenance costs and meet the green eco-friendly requirement.

Large Transmission Capacity and Modular Upgrade Capability

ZXONE 8000 product can be configured as 80/96-wavelength service transmission systems that conform to specifications of international standard and ITU-T. A single wavelength supports rates of 2.5Gbit/s, 10Gbit/s, 40Gbit/s and 100Gbit/s.

Its large transmission capacity can fully meet the bandwidth requirement of metro network, and its modular upgrade mode ensures low investment at the early stage of network establishment and subsequent smooth capacity expansion, which can help ease the financial pressure of network establishment.

Powerful Transmission Capability

ZXONE 8000 product adopts optical source technologies including out-band FEC, advanced FEC (AFEC), RZ and adaptive receiving together with various amplification modes such as RAMAN amplifier and high-power EDFA to increase the transmission distance of linear system. For the system with single-wavelength capacity of 10 Gbit/s:

Multi-span: ZXONE 8000 product supports multi-span transmission without OEO processing such as 30×22 dB, 12×30 dB.

The maximum transmission distance without OEO processing of 40G system is 1500km, and the maximum transmission distance without OEO processing of 100G system is 3500km.

The product supports 1588V2-based time transmission, which can effectively avoid time inaccuracy caused by physical factors such as dispersion adjustment and route change and improve the stability of time transmission.

100G transmission capacity

ZXONE 8000 can support a single 100Gbit / s systems, and has the following characteristics:

Support 80 * 100GE transmission, the transmission capacity is 8Tbit / s;

PM-QPSK encoding using SD-FEC technology with good OSNR tolerance, can suppress nonlinear effects. Radio relay transmission distance can reach 2000 kilometers without REG.

Embedded high speed DSP technology to improve the dispersion and PMD tolerance can support 60ps of PMD tolerance, CD tolerance to 70000ps/nm.

Intelligent and Three-Dimensional Service Scheduling and Grooming Capability

In support of WASON, ZXONE 8000 product incorporates ROADM technologies, electrical cross-connect technologies to build an intelligent and multi-layer service grooming system.

ROADM supports 2-9-degree agile lambda-level scheduling.

ODUk integrated electrical cross-connect platform supports cross-connect dispatching of ODU0/1/2/2e/3/4/flex granules. ZXONE 8000 CX21 can provide a cross-connect capacity of 1.4T; ZXONE 8000 CX31 can provide a cross-connect capacity of 2.8T; ZXONE 8000 CX51/ can provide a cross-connect capacity of 3.2T; ZXONE 8000 CX71/ can provide a cross-connect capacity of 9.4T.

L2 switching platform supports convergence of twenty-four GE and one 10GE into OTU2, which greatly improves the transport efficiency.

Fully Support ODU0

ZXONE 8000 product supports encapsulation of GE signals to ODU0 and can realize ODU0-based non-blocking cross-connect dispatching, providing reliable bearing and grooming for ALL-IP network GE services.

ZXONE 8000 product provide complete ODU0 service encapsulation and overhead detection function and can realize end-to-end performance monitoring on a single GE.

Stable Equipment Performance

ZXONE 8000 product offers 1+1 protection for SNP board, clock board and power board. ZXONE 8000 CX31/CX51 /CX71 provide “overall protection” for cross-connection board to improve the stability of system monitoring.

ZXONE 8000 product provides intelligent heat dissipation function. FCC intelligent speed regulating heat dissipation modules are located at the bottom and top layers of the shelf. Each FCC has built-in speed regulating heat dissipation fans that support automatic and manual regulation of temperature.

To improve reliability of cross-connection unit, traditional cross-shelf large-sized cross-connection unit design is not used for ZXONE 8000 product; the size of the cross-connection unit is designed totally the same as that of the service access unit, so as to improve the universality and reliability of cross-connection unit.

ZXONE 8000 CX31 sub-rack has 4 cross-connection units. As proprietary patent algorithm and coding/decoding technique are adopted, the system can work properly when any two of the cross-connection units are online at the same time.

ZXONE 8000 CX51 sub-rack has 6 cross-connection units. As proprietary patent algorithm and coding/decoding technique are adopted, the system can work properly when any four of the cross-connection units are online at the same time.

Overall protection enables the whole OTN cross-connection system to tolerate concurrent failure of any two cross-connection boards. This is an evolution of protection function, more reliable than traditional 1+1 protection.

Complete Protection Functions

ZXONE 8000 product offers 1+1 protection for SNP board, clock board and power board, provides overall protection for cross-connection board, and has mature optical-layer and electrical-layer protection techniques.

Optical-layer protection technique: link optical multiplex section 1+1 protection, ring network optical channel 1+1 protection, OPCS and OPMS;

Electrical-layer protection technique: wavelength/sub-wavelength channel shared protection, wavelength/sub-wavelength channel 1+1 protection and intelligent Ethernet ring protection (ESR) based on L2 switching.

All protective switching time meets the requirement of less than 50ms specified by ITU-T.

CapeX Reduction

ZXONE 8000 can realize service interworking and they can use the same boards so as to provide full of WDM solutions at different network levels, reduce quantity of spare parts and cut down TCO of the customers to the fullest extent.

The line side and client side are separated to increase board integration. The separation of client side and line side can aggregate various different client-side services to the same line-side board to share the bandwidth, which effectively increases bandwidth utilization rate; the boards on the line side and client side can be combined flexibly so that the spare parts can be reduced from M × N to M + N (M and N mean client-side boards and line-side boards, respectively; M, N>2), which effectively reduces network cost and equipment room space.

OpeX Reduction

The equipment is green and eco-friendly with low power consumption. It can save 30%-40% power consumption compared with average level in the industry. For a networkincluding ten 80-wavelength sites, it can save 328,500 kWh power every year and reduce 249 ton CO2 discharge.

Product Architecture

ZXONE 8000 has hardware system and network management software system, which cooperate with each other but work independently. ZXONE 8000 hardware system includes optical forwarding platform, service aggregation platform, add/drop wavelength division multiplexing platform, optical amplifying platform, protection platform and monitoring platform.

Optical transfer platform

It adopts optical/electrical/optical conversion to implement conversion between service signal and line signal wavelength. Line-side signals meet G.692 and G.709 requirements after signal wavelength conversion.

Service aggregation platform

It aggregates multiple low-rate signals to one wavelength, or disaggregates a high-rate signal on a wavelength into multiple low-rate signals.

Add/drop multiplexing/de-multiplexing platform

Add/drop multiplexing platform implements add/drop and multiplexing of line optical signal wavelength. The equipment can be divided into Fixed Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer (FOADM) and Reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer (ROADM) based on the fact whether the add/drop wavelength is fixed.

Multiplexing/de-multiplexing platform completes multiplexing and de-multiplexing of line optical signals.

–Multiplexing: coupling multiple optical signals with different wavelength from optical forwarding platform and service aggregation platform into one fiber for output.

–De-multiplexing: separate line optical signals from optical amplifying platform based on different wavelength channels and send them into different optical forwarding platforms and service aggregation platforms respectively.

Optical Amplifying Platform

It takes consumption compensation for long-distance transmitted optical signal by optical amplifying. It usually locates behind de-multiplexing platform, before multiplexing platform, and at the intermediate position of line transmission.

Protection Platform

It provides system with network-level and equipment-level protection.

Monitoring Platform

–Collect, process and report the configuration, alarm and performance information of each platform to the network management system.

–Receive the commands issued by network management system and forward them to the destination card.

–Transmit network management message via designated monitoring optical channel, which supports a rate of 100Mbit/s with a wavelength of 1510 nm.
