Properties: green or yellow green metallic luster crystal, a mixture of fuchsin and Parafuchsin (parrarosaniline) hydrochloride or acetate. Decomposition above 200 ℃. Soluble in ethanol and pentanol, slightly soluble in water. It is red when it is dissolved in alcohol, red purple when it is dissolved in hot water, yellow brown when it is encountered with concentrated sulfuric acid, and almost colorless when it is diluted; it is almost colorless when it is added with sodium hydroxide.
Purpose: biochemical research. It is used for the preparation of Schiff reagent to detect aldehydes and for the extraction spectrophotometric determination of some acid and metal ions. It is also used for spectrophotometric determination of bromine, nitrite and sulfur dioxide. It is used as a great inhibitor in polarographic analysis. It is also used as a nuclear dye for biochemical analysis, and it is the strongest nuclear dye. It can stain mucin, elastic tissue and fuchsin granules. Nuclear staining of the central nervous system; identification of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in bacteriology; preparation of Schiff reagent to test aldehydes in analytical chemistry.
