Free Radical test by measurement of MDA
Information
Self-Stik FR test strip is a simple urine test that detects MDA (malondialdehyde) levels, which is a by-product during lipid peroxidation due to stress and /or insufficient level of antioxidants. The test requires no instrument, takes 3 minutes to generate the data and assess the results by visual observation.
Self-Stik FR test strip when dipped in urine the reagent reacts with MDA to produce color indicating the presence and the level. Tests are ready to use and results are obtained by direct comparison of the test areas to the color blocks printed on the bottle label.
What is MDA (Malondialdehyde)?
MDA is the by product in the lipid peroxidation reaction of unsaturated fatty acids with free radicals. Intact MDA molecule can bind biological molecules and thereby reduce the biochemical functions of the molecules. Most of the MDA molecules, produced in an organism, are secreted and degraded ultimately to nontoxic metabolites. However, an excessive production of MDA in an organism leaves undegraded MDA in the system. The undegraded MDA can be measured in the urine specimen of such individual. Thus, MDA concentration in urine specimen may represent the biological indicators to assess the degree of oxidative damage occurred in the subject. As a result, it's vital to regularly check and monitor the free radical activity in the body via self-stick FR strips.
What can I learn from MDA concentration in my urine specimen?
MDA concentration in urine specimen allows us to evaluate the amount of oxygen free radicals and therefore the damaged functional molecules in the body. Generally, an excessive amount of oxygen free radicals are produced in our body as a result of frequent exposure to some disagreeable environment, an excessive exercise, an uptake of excessive food, or irregular sleep pattern, etc. Therefore, an abnormally high level of urinary MDA concentration reveals the presence of abnormality in some part of the body and warrants a complete physical examination, including consultation with family physician.
Storage and handling
Store in a dry place at room temperature between 2-30 ℃ and out of direct sunlight. Do not refrigerate. Do not touch the test pad of the strips. Do not use after expiration date.
Directions
1. Remove the strip from the bottle for immediate use and replace cap tightly.
2. If the test has been left out of the bottle for 20 minutes or more, take a new test strip. Do not touch the test pad area of the strip.
3. Dip the test strip completely for no more than 1 second in fresh, well mixed, and uncentrifuged urine.
4. Tap excess urine off the test pad.
5. Wait 3 minutes after exposure to urine, then immediately compare the test pad color to the color chart on the box. Remember, read results within 3 minutes after exposure to urine, as results after 4 minutes may not be reliable.
Meaning of Result
Recommendations
Try to have enough and regular sleep with a physical and mental relaxation.
Acquire a balanced diet, consume adequate amount of fresh fruits and vegetables, and avoid excessive consumption of sugar and salt. Do regular base exercise.
Precaution
Please read all the information before performing the test.
- For urine testing only. Collect the first urine of the day (mid-day) by voiding directly into a sterile container for optimal results.
- Follow directions exactly for accurate results.
- Do not open pouch until ready to use.
- Do not use after expiration date.
- Keep out of the reach of children.
- Used or discolored strips should be discarded according tolocal regulations.
