Pitters Tawny ages in small wooden casks, generally holding about 630 litres. As it matures in cask, Tawny Port gradually loses the deep red 'ruby' colour of youth and takes on the seductive amber hue known as 'tawny'. At the same time the wine becomes progressively smoother and mellower, its aromas gaining in richness and complexity. The wines are then blended together a few months before bottling for balance and harmony.

Founded in 1920, Pitters celebrates 100 years of dedication to the creation of the finest Port Wines.
Born of ageing and blending skills perfected by a century of experience, Pitters Ports represent a careful selection of wines from the finest areas of the Douro Valley.
Pitters Ports quickly became a favourite of socialites and party-goers in the Roaring Twenties and remains one of the most popular and respected Port brands, instantly recognisable by its distinctive Tiger Face emblem.

TASTING NOTES
Deep brick-red with the garnet highlights that denote time spent in oak cask. Generous, subtly spicy nose, in which dried fruit and jammy red berry aromas blend with discreet oaky notes and hints of coffee and liquorice. Rich, full and mellow on the palate, with a silky texture, this is a fully-flavoured Port whose luscious flavours of jammy fruit linger into the long finish.

STORAGE
This wine is ready to drink and does not require decanting. The bottle should be kept upright, protected from light and at a cool and constant temperature.
SERVING
The wine benefits from being served slightly chilled, between 12ºC to 16ºC. The particular qualities of this wine allow it to be enjoyed over an extended period of time once opened, without losing its freshness and vibrancy. Optimum drinking time after opening the bottle is within two months.
PAIRING SUGGESTIONS
Pitters Tawny makes a delicious dessert wine. It combines particularly well with flavours of dried fruits and almond flavoured desserts. Perfect to accompany a crème brûlée, a tiramisú or an apple pie, it can also be enjoyed as an accompaniment for firm, mature and intense cheeses. It is excellent at the end of the meal, served on its own or with a plate of walnuts or roasted almonds.

The year 1928 was marked by a renowned work of art designed by Leonetto Cappiello. Cappiello is one of the greatest figures in the history of poster art and is known as the father of modern advertising. Cappiello's inventiveness was remarkable, as he created nearly 1000 product posters. Today, his original posters are still collected, sold at auction and by dealers around the world.
Following Leonetto Cappiello’s poster, Pitters has kept a close link with art. In 1930, a new poster featuring a characterful tiger with a case of Pitters Port wine was created. This artwork has not been signed and the author is unknown.
In 2019 The Fladgate Partnership secured the purchase of the Pitters Port business, bringing the brand closer to its roots, the Douro Valley, in Portugal. The Fladgate Partnership is a leading player in the production of Premium quality Ports, sold in over 105 countries. With the acquisition, Pitters new family owners began a plan of investments in Pitters Port.
In 2020, Pitters celebrates its 100th anniversary. The Centenary is an opportunity to celebrate Pitters’ achievements, re-positioning the brand in the market with its greatest strengths. Pitters is now presented in the market with a refreshed image and new labels. The new labels bring back the tiger face, leveraging the spirit of the tiger that was present in Pitters’ first labels. The new image reinforces the values of this timeless and original brand, preserving Pitters’ individual identity, its history and tradition.
