Carpet Tack Strips are narrow length of wood, usually douglas fir, that are used to keeping wall-to-wall carpet in place.They are studded with lots, sometimes hundreds of nails (or tacks) and are installed along with the perometer of the walls, tack-side up.
Some foam carpet underlay just simply lie on the floor, but most standard carpet underlay are laid over a separate pad and are stretched and attached to the floor along the perimeter. The key material for this traditional method is the carpet tack stripes.
When the tack stripes are nailed, screwed, or glued to the subfloor with the tacks angled toward the wall, the tacks wil grip the carpet backing and hold the carpet in place as it is installed.
