This product uses gold foil from Kanazawa, also widely known as the traditional product of Zipangu, the "land of gold," that is highly popular around the world. Each and every item is meticulously handcrafted by craftsmen. While automation through mechanization is now the norm, we continue to focus on bringing customers the beauty of masterpieces. The passion with which the craftsmen create these works allows you to experience and enjoy the aura that only genuine works possess. These one-of-a-kind works created by craftsmen who are well-versed in both famous paintings and gold foil will transcend time and be handed down to future generations.
Gold foil is used in a wide variety of decorative arts, including in temples and shrines of tremendous historical value such as the Kinkakuji Temple and the Nikko Toshugu Shrine. Over 99% of all gold foil in Japan is produced in Kanazawa. It is said that the development of gold foil in the historical city of Kanazawa is due to the evolution of traditional art forms such as Noh and tea ceremony, which had flourished under the domain's policy of encouraging traditional culture, as well as the climate, environment, and resolute spirit of craftsmanship that had taken root in the Hokuriku region.
Shikisaido is a Japanese household goods store that was founded in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka Prefecture in 1998. We have selected and sold crafts, food products, and other goods from local production areas that specialize in traditional handicrafts and “monozukuri” manufacturing, and these locations include 47 different prefectures all across Japan.
In 2005, we were incorporated as Shikisaido Co., Ltd. With Shikisaido’s core business as a Japanese household goods store, we have been in business with close to 1,500 companies (private workshops included) in Japan, and our slogan when it comes to our business ventures is: "Revitalizing both Japanese crafts and the local areas that make them.” In addition to this, we also design and develop our own original made-in-Japan products, which we sell both domestically and overseas.
The crafts that we offer include Japanese-style pottery and lacquerware, chopsticks, glass, noren curtains, Nambu Tekki ironware, tapestries, maneki-neko (beckoning cat figures), and Daruma dolls. Our wide range of goods also includes food products, such as sencha green tea, matcha green tea, and dashi stock.
We would like to showcase Japan’s signature product quality to the world, which only comes by way of the careful craftsmanship that Japanese artisans can offer.
Revitalizing both Japanese crafts and the local areas that make them.
