Properties

Technical product is a brown ~ dark brown viscous oily liquid, soluble in xylene,
toluene and many other solvents; stable in neutral or weak acid media; boiling
point of (°C) 124-128, 0.3mg/L (25°C) in water, and miscible withvarious
organic solvents.

Analytical Method

Residues determined by glc (Anal. Methods Residues Pestic., 1988, Part I, M11) or
by rplc with uv detection (AOAC Methods,18th Ed., 995.02). Diastereoisomer ratio
determined by hplc with uv detection (CIPAC Handbook, 1998, H, 106).

Mode of Action

A non-systemic insecticide with contact and stomach action.
Acts on the nervous system, with rapid knockdown and long residual activity.

Characteristics and Uses

Broad-spectrum insect killing activity and very good killing effect on
aphids and Eriophyes oleivorus, with a fast, lasting effect; takes 20 min
to take effect after application; is also a plant growth regulator and
plays a role in promoting growth, accelerating ripening and helping germen grow.

Toxicity

In rats, the LD50s are 500, 800 (oral), and 600 (skin) mg/kg Excessive exposure
can cause nausea, headache, muscle weakness, salivation, shortness of breath
and seizures. In humans, it is deactivated by enzymatic hydrolysis to
several carboxylic acid metabolites, whose urinary excretion half-lives are in a range
of 5–7 hours. Worker exposure to the chemical can be monitored by measurement
of the urinary metabolites, while severe overdosage may be confirmed by quantification
of cyfluthrin in blood or plasma.
