A white or almost white powder odourless ,tasteless .Insoluble in water.
Easy deliquescence. Exposed to the air or see the light out of iodine and brown, soluble in ethanol and ether, slightly soluble in glycerol. Aqueous solution PH ~ 5, mp 446 ℃.
Used for iodine starch reagents to determine nitrite. Used as reagents for the analysis of free chlorine and other gasifiers.
