A microbe is a microscopic organism. Microbes can be multi-cellular or single-celled organisms and include bacteria, protozoa, and some fungi and algae. Microbes can be found in every type of environment, and play a crucial role in ecosystems because they act as decomposers.

Microbes play an important role in the health and vitality of plants. This is because many microbes aid in the process of delivering and recycling nutrients in the soil. Microbes can break down large pieces of organic matter and turn it into much more simple chemical components. This process makes the individual chemical components easier for plants to absorb and utilize. One important nutrient that microbes provide is nitrogen.

Trichoderma spp. is the kind of microbes that can help crops defend diseases.

Dora RootGuard is biological fertilizer product for protecting a number of crop plants from damage, such as soilborne plant pathogens and plant root diseases.The active ingredient is trichoderma harzianum.

After we used the Dora Rootguard,the active ingredient(trichoderma harzianum) will forms a physical bond with the plants root system,establishing itself in the rhizosphere(root zone) and thereby preventing other pathogens.

This bond and continual growth of the trichoderma harzianum throughout the root system forms a physical barrier to pathogens in soil. 

Trichoderma harzianum also attack/parasitize and otherwise gain nutrition from other fungi. They have evolved numerous mechanisms for both attack of other fungi and for enhancing plant and root growth.

Treating seedlings with microbial inoculants is also a good idea. Some microbes fix nitrogen from the air and feed it to the plant, others solubilize phosphorus, and some produce plant protection agents and rooting hormones. For example, some micro-organisms produce the amino acid tryptophan on the surface of the roots. The root cells easily absorb the tryptophan and transport it to the leaves, where it is converted into IAA. The IAA is then pumped to the roots to stimulate the growth of new root hairs.

Beneficial microbes also produce siderophores. The word siderophore literally means “iron carrier.” One of the strongest chelators of iron in nature, siderophores act indirectly as plant protection agents. As beneficial bacteria colonize the root surface, siderophores sequester iron and make it unavailable to foreign invaders so the roots are protected from root pathogens such as pythium and rhizoctonia. Some soilless mixes take advantage of the process by adding certain species of bacillus subtilis to the blend and calling it a biofungicide.
