Diethanolamine is mainly used as acid gas absorbent such as CO2, H2S and SO2, non-ionic surfactant, emulsifier, polishing agent, industrial gas purifier, lubricant. Used as a thickener foam modifier in shampoo and light detergent, as a softener in synthetic fiber and leather production. Two ethanolamine acts on 70% sulfuric acid, dehydration and cyclization to form morpholine (i.e. 1,4- oxo cyclohexane). Morpholine and diethanolamine are intermediates of organic synthesis. For example, they can be used in the production of some optical bleaching agents in the textile industry. Morpholine fatty acid salts can be used as preservatives. Morpholine can also be used in the production of the central inhibitor, formaldehyde, or as a solvent. Diethanolamine is used in analytical chemistry as a reagent and gas chromatographic stationary phase, selectively retaining and separating alcohols, diols, amines, pyridines, quinolines, piperazines, mercaptan, thioether and water.
