Vacuum gold ingot casting process equipment


Vacuum ingot casting process is only suitable for one room and one ingot. It is mostly used for casting large forging ingots. Its equipment is mainly vacuum chamber and vacuum pump besides conventional ingot mould, insulation cap and chassis.

A sealed cylindrical metal chamber welded by steel plates is covered at the upper part, firebrick is laid at the bottom and side walls, and brick can be laid on all side walls or 1/2 high. There is a gate on the cover of the vacuum chamber, which is tightly covered with an aluminium basin before pouring, and a tundish is placed tightly on the cover. The tundish nozzle must coincide with the center line of the gate. The vacuum chamber, vacuum cover and tundish are sealed with heat-resistant rubber ring. As molten steel diffuses into a fine stream after entering the vacuum chamber space, the steel flow is not easy to align with the ingot mould, so a guide pipe is installed under the vacuum cover. The diversion tube is rolled into a cylinder by steel plate and firebrick is built inside. The inner diameter of the diversion tube varies from 200 mm to 460 mm in different factories. The size of the vacuum chamber shall be based on all the Metallurgical Accessories (including ingot mould, chassis and insulation cap) that can be put into the largest ingot to be cast, and the appropriate space for hoisting shall be left. The suction pipe of the vacuum chamber is connected with the vacuum pump at the upper part of the chamber, and a vacuum valve is arranged. The opening and closing of the vacuum chamber cover can be lifted by crane, or it can be equipped with the opening and closing device itself. In order to see the distribution of molten steel beam and the rising position of molten steel, the vacuum chamber cover is equipped with peep holes, and some are equipped with industrial TV. The casting condition is observed in the operation control room.

Mechanical pumps were first used in vacuum treatment of molten steel. Mechanical pumps had two major shortcomings: first, the amount of air pumped was not large, a set of vacuum ingot casting devices had to be connected in parallel with many pumps, and the pumping station occupied a large area; second, it was relatively easy to be damaged and had a large amount of maintenance, which limited the application and development of vacuum treatment of molten steel. Until after World War II, high performance and high exhaust speed were produced. Efficient vacuum pump and vacuum ingot casting technology have developed rapidly. Steam ejector pump is a vacuum pump powered by steam. Its greatest feature is that it has no mechanical rotating parts, is not easy to damage, easy to maintain and operate. It is generally designed as four or five grades, and the vacuum chamber is pumped to the required vacuum degree by stages, with the vacuum degree of 26.7-66.6 Pa.

Vacuum casting needs to go through tundish, molten steel has a certain temperature drop, so the tapping temperature is higher than that of air casting. The chassis, ingot mould and heat preservation cap are assembled in vacuum chamber beforehand. The vacuum chamber cover is covered. At the end of smelting, the guide pipe and tundish are installed, and then the vacuum is pumped. When the molten steel in the ladle is injected into the tundish about 2/3 high and the pouring temperature meets the technological requirements, the tundish plug rod is opened, the molten steel flows out through the nozzle, and the aluminium basin on the melting gate enters the vacuum chamber and injects into the ingot mould. After the ingot is poured, the vacuum is destroyed, the cover of the vacuum chamber is opened, and the insulating agent is added. The ingot is statically placed in the mould until it solidifies completely, and then it is put into the demoulding water supply press workshop.
