On the pin disc mill the fineness is mainly adjusted by the speed of the rotor disc ( peripheral speed up to influence the fineness by the number of studs and their arrangement.
Pin Discs, Counter Rotating Design
With the assembly of a second drive on the door of the Universal Mill's housing, the stator disc of the single-disc pin mill is changed into a rotor disc as well. Due to the counter rotation of these two pin discs the relative peripheral speed is increased up to 250 m sec. Compared to the machine designs has developed some changed for this machine design with opposed disc rotation operational safety to the user. For example, on the bearing shaft there is no gearbox. We have developed a lubricated highly efficient bearing, with no risk of gear damage. The product is actually fed through a hollow shaft of the disc bearing on the door side. Hereby assembly is best realized and the danger of bridging on the inlet is minimized. The end fineness you can obtain on this configuration with opposed disc rotation is in the range of <30 um and below. This machine type is used for similar applications as the single pin disc mill, however, the focus is clearly in the field of "cryogenic grinding".
