Shearing machine, in simple words, is a device that separate metal sheets into parts. In accordance with shear design, it can be subdivided into guillotine and swing beam. Although they are extensively used in various industries, they still have something different as follows:

Work principles
A guillotine shear has a moving blade which is almost parallel to the fixed one during the whole stroke. It requires a gibbing system to keep the blade beam in proper position when shearing metal sheet.
In contrast to guillotine shear, swing beam shear eliminates gibs which is designed for proper position. Its blade pivots around a fixed point instead of vertical movement.

Cutting precision
Due to different structures and working principles, guillotine shear is more precise than swing beam.

Cylinder life
Hydraulic system is a frequently used drive system for swing beam and guillotine shear. For swing beam shear, its semi-circular cylinder locates inside hard to lubricate and repair. While guillotine shear uses cylinder which is full of oil eliminating the need of lubrication and has a longer working period.

Cutting angle
Guillotine shear is so versatile for its adjustable cutting angle. Larger cutting angle is engineered for strong shear capacity; and small angle for fast cutting speed.For swing beam shear, neither cutting angle nor cutting speed can be adjusted.
