Cleaning the Fuel Injectors

If the fuel injectors are restricted or leaking, there are several options to clean them including:
1. A fuel injector-cleaning chemical that is poured into the fuel tank.
Provides a noticeable difference in power and drive-ability after one use. The disadvantages are that you can’t check the spray pattern, and the filters may become plugged with contaminants freed by the cleaner.
2. A cleaner that runs through the fuel rails and injectors.
Uses stronger chemicals that the in tank cleaners. Same disadvantages as 1.
3. An ultrasonic injector cleaner and injector flow bench.
The preferred method of cleaning injectors. Cycles the fuel injectors while the fuel injector tips are immersed in an ultrasonic bath, which uses an environmentally friendly cleaning fluid to clean the fuel injectors. Is a special solution required for cleaning?
Soils adhere to the parts... if they didn't, the soil would just fall off the parts! The purpose of the solution is to break the bonds between parts and their soils. Water alone has no cleaning properties. The primary purpose of the ultrasonic activity (cavitation) is to assist the solution in doing its job. An ultrasonic cleaning solution contains various ingredients designed to optimise the ultrasonic cleaning process. For example, increased cavitation levels result from reduced fluid surface tension. An ultrasonic solution will contain a good wetting agent or surfactant.

Ultrasonic cleaning is the fastest, most economical and efficient method of removing dirt, oil, grease, rust, flux, oxide film and other contaminants from visible and invisible surfaces. An object immersed inside an ultrasonic cleaner becomes a sound wave conductor and helps clean itself. Most intricate parts may be cleaned without disassembly. The cleaning efficiency of this method is not duplicated by any other available means. Ultrasonic cleaning is the application of a high-frequency sound wave to an aqueous solution or solvent. The introduction of this sound wave into cleaning solution creates millions of microscopic bubbles, which expand and collapse (implode) vigorously. The agitation produced by the formation and implosion of these bubbles effects an intense scrubbing action upon submerged parts in the cleaning tank and removes accumulations and residues.

FAQ

What is ultrasonic cleaning?

Ultrasonic cleaning is an exceptional technique that facilitates the cleaning process. It is an exceptionally thorough process which cleans efficiently various items. This powerful process can perform very detailed work quickly and successfully remove microscopic particles from hard surfaces. External as well as internal surfaces, blind holes and crevices, can be cleaned simultaneously and uniformly. Greasy, oily and sticky parts are efficiently cleaned with an ultrasonic cleaning unit.

Ultrasonic cleaning cleans better, faster and is environmentally safe since it uses a water based cleaning solution. It often replaces the conventional solvent cleaning process.

Why purchase an ultrasonic cleaning unit?

•Self financing through labor saving and water base solvent.

•Environmentally friendly.

•Biodegradable detergents.

•Ability to reach into small crevices.

•Faster cleaning.

•Safe operation.

Q: Why is Ultrasonic Cleaning so Efficient and Effect?

A: When cavitation happens near a dirty object, the vacuum action produced by those million of bubbles constantly imploding creates a tiny pressure wave that reaches deep into every nook and cranny of even the most delicate items.

This tiny pressure wave dislodges and breaks up the dirt and other contaminants and gently lifts it away. The result isvery fast and effective cleaning.

Ultrasonic Cleaning Step :

Place your disassembled motor boat engine components in the cleaner’s mesh basket. Position them to avoid contact with each other.
Place the parts basket into the heated bath. Cleaning time will vary depending on the condition of the parts but you can start at 40 minutes. Use this time to handle other chores.

At the end of the cycle remove the basket and inspect the parts for cleanliness. If you are not happy replace them in the bath for another run. A caution: do not reach into an operating ultrasonic bath.

When parts are clean, rinse them in fresh water to remove the ultrasonic cleaning solution residue. Allow them to dry and lubricate or oil as needed before reassembly.

When should you consider adding ultrasonics to a cleaning process?

Usually, the answer is whenever parts are not getting clean enough using the current method. Ultrasonics become a viable purchase when cleaning issues are negatively impacting productivity, quality and/or the bottom line. Effective cleaning with ultrasonics has been proven in a wide range of industries ranging from microscopic medical devices to reconditioned locomotive shafts, from aerospace parts to parts prior to coating, and more.

Ultrasonics can be included in a new cleaning process or sometimes can be retrofitted into an existing process. In many cases, rejects due to residue on parts can be virtually eliminated with the addition of ultrasonics into clean and/or rinse stations in a properly-configured parts cleaning line.

Ultrasonic Frequency and Watt Density

Ultrasonic energy occurs when sound waves are introduced into a solution such as water via a package that includes one or more ultrasonic generators and corresponding ultrasonic transducers.
