To enhance the efficient transmission of these waves of energy, immersing the soiled instruments in an appropriate liquid medium, such as a detergent solution, is essential. Although ultrasonic waves are inaudible, harmonics of the ultrasonic cleaner's primary, or fundamental, frequency may produce audible sound.
